It all started with a vision outlined in the Town Plan published in 2017, which highlighted the pressing need for affordable housing for our local residents. From those early beginnings, the Knaresborough CLT was born, driven by the desire to empower our community and make a positive impact on people's lives.

So, what exactly is a Community Land Trust? It's a not-for-profit organization, lovingly run by volunteers like ourselves, focused on providing housing and essential community facilities at permanently affordable levels. Whether it's housing for the elderly or running a community hub, shop, or post office – our goal is to genuinely serve and empower our local community.

You might be wondering, "Who can join?" Well, the answer is simple: anyone who is 16 years or older and lives, works, or studies in the Knaresborough area or surrounding villages can become a member. And the best part is, membership is entirely free! While we do welcome donations, the important thing is that your voice matters – your signature on the membership form ensures you have a vote on all projects and board elections.

As a member, you get to actively participate in shaping our projects and making decisions. You can attend trust events and board meetings, cast your vote on project choices and criteria for housing, and have a say in who sits on the board. Your views are vital, and we encourage you to share them during our gatherings or simply observe how the trust works.
